Floridians Feeling the Pinch — and Want Change
Florida residents have noticed steadily rising electric bills, and concern is growing. A recent statewide poll conducted by Cygnal on behalf of Conservatives for Clean Energy Florida found that 82% of likely voters believe their utility costs are increasing.
While this sentiment reflects broader inflation pressures on housing, taxes, and everyday expenses, what stands out is that many of these same voters are expressing strong interest in expanding clean-energy options across the state.
Clean Energy Finds Common Ground
78% of Floridians support expanding clean-energy alternatives.
67% said they’re more likely to back a candidate who promotes solar growth.
68% favor policies that encourage rooftop solar adoption.
62% support restarting and expanding nuclear-energy production.
Notably, more than six in ten Republicans share these views — underscoring that clean energy is not just a partisan issue.
The poll also revealed that 67% of voters see energy independence as a national-security issue — in other words, clean energy isn’t just about the environment, but about “keeping power under our roof”.
The Voter Message: Lower Costs, Smarter Energy
When voters express concern about rising utility costs, it reflects a genuine financial strain. Energy expenses directly affect household budgets, and as a result, many see clean energy as a practical way to reduce exposure to future price increases and improve long-term stability.
Because a majority of voters say they’re more likely to support candidates who advocate for solar and clean-energy initiatives, policymakers in Florida—and beyond—may want to refine their energy platforms. Rising bills are a voter priority, and clean energy is increasingly viewed as part of the solution, sending a clear signal for future elections.
It’s notable that support for clean energy and solar power isn’t limited to one party. When significant numbers of Republicans also back these measures, that suggests a window of bipartisan alignment (at least in Florida) around energy policy.

The Takeaway
Floridians are becoming increasingly aware of rising energy costs — and they’re responding with strong support for clean-energy solutions such as solar, nuclear, and policies that promote energy independence. Energy is no longer a niche issue; it’s central to household budgets, economic security, and the state’s future. Voters are clearly calling for cleaner, more affordable, and more reliable energy options, signaling that Florida’s energy strategy must evolve toward sustainability and self-reliance.
The next challenge lies in turning that public support into action, through thoughtful policies, strategic investments, and utility reforms that make clean energy both accessible and cost-effective for all Floridians.
